This painting was inspired by a walk in October through a Toronto forest. I usually prefer the deep reds and oranges of the fall, but this time I was mesmerized by the bright yellow leaves that shone above me in every direction I looked. The woods felt so happy and alive, and I wanted to capture this more cheerful side of autumn, with lots of lemon and lime colours rather than the darker tones that can make the season feel heavy. For me, this piece is about a moment in nature, when a simple pleasure like strolling through the forest becomes so exhilarating because of the time of year, as if your walking through a forest in Candyland rather than the one in your backyard. This painting is a playful, lighthearted take on the beauty of the fall.
